A Place for Truth Beyond Tradition, Dogma, and Mythology

Welcome.

I am Dr Neil Hamson, a critical theologian and researcher dedicated to uncovering the human story behind religion itself.
My work explores the origins, evolution, and interconnection of all known belief systems, from the ancient pagan traditions of the northern hemisphere and the mythologies of the Near East, to the Abrahamic faiths and the theological frameworks of modern monotheism.

Through the discipline of critical theology, my goal is not to defend doctrine or deny faith, but to understand how humanity created and re-created the divine, how language, culture, and shared experience shaped the gods, scriptures, and moral systems that have defined civilisations for millennia.

My academic journey began with an honours degree at the University of Madinah, forming the foundation for my continuing exploration of theology’s historical and intellectual dimensions. In 2025, through a collaborative initiative between the University of Madinah and the University of Oxford, I was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity, recognising my thesis on Islamic thought and its historical evolution.

Furthering this path, I engaged in research with the University of Birmingham (England and Dubai), focusing on comparative theology and intercultural dialogue. That same year, I received an honorary Doctorate in Theology for my contributions to scholarship and public education.

Today, I continue to serve as a research professor for several universities and organisations. However, much of my current work is devoted to public scholarship, making critical theological research accessible to all.

You can read my full research here on this website, or watch my visual presentations on my YouTube channel: Dr Neil Hamson, where I explore religion, history, and belief through evidence-based analysis that challenges tradition while seeking truth.
